This workshop provides an opportunity for students to learn about current approaches to address affordable/workforce housing and to explore why specific approaches may be successful in smaller communities but less so in larger and more complex regions. The workshop will explore the ongoing housing challenges that confront the Wasatch Back in Utah (Park City, Heber City, the Town of Hideout, Summit County and Wasatch County). This area is complex with its diverse local economies, geographic desirability, significant housing cost variation and proximity to Salt Lake City. Is it possible to plan for affordable/workforce housing across jurisdictional boundaries and within a larger region? Yes, if done intentionally.
