Description
This course explores the two interrelated bodies of law related to war: the rules governing when a state may resort to the use of force in international law (jus ad bellum) and the rules constraining the conduct of warfare itself (jus in bello). This course covers the historical evolution of modern views on war, restrictions on the use of force in the current system, self-defense, unilateral and collective action in response to violations on the prohibition of force, humanitarian intervention, protections for civilians, the role of combatants, and restrictions on the use of certain weapons.
