Description
Special Education Law delineates services provided to individuals with disabilities. These service expectations are administered by professionals in the fields of general education, special education, special physical education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, and medicine. This seminar is designed to promote transdisciplinary collaboration among service providers while discussing topics related to a variety of disabilities, special education law, the role of professionals, parent advocacy, communication skills, and transition services and extracurricular activities for children with disabilities. The structure of this seminar is practically applying knowledge and skills to real case studies. Students will record themselves teaching then complete a self and peer evaluation of the teaching experience, develop an electronic teaching portfolio, and will collect and chart assessment data on motor skill and a fitness skill for the 2 classes they are teaching this semester and will develop both Class and Individual Evaluation Forms to display the results of the assessment. As a group, students will develop a physical activity program for children with disabilities that address the child’s individual needs relative to physical therapy, occupational therapy, and special physical education and will develop and present on a topic at a Parent Workshop.
