Description
This intensive course offers a detailed examination of underground mining methods, including their application, design, and safety considerations. Students will explore supported, unsupported, and caving methods, along with subtypes like room and pillar, stoping, and block caving. The curriculum covers foundational vocabulary, geomechanics of openings, equipment challenges, and unique risks in underground mining. Through lectures, labs, group projects, and critical reviews of published mine profiles, students will gain practical insights into the development and production phases of each method. Emphasis is placed on safety considerations and understanding the unique equipment and operations of each mining method. Upon completion, students will be equipped with a comprehensive understanding of various underground mining techniques and prepared for real-world applications in the mining industry.
