COMM 3580 - 001 Power, Politics, Profits
Power, Politics, and Profits: Practical advice on how to succeed in any organization. In this class you will receive practical advice on how to succeed in any organization. You will learn how internal company politics work, what drives people to seek more power, and how the need for profits impact decision making. You will learn how to read a financial statement, (don’t be scared by this) entrepreneurship best practices, and how to recognize and deal with conflict. This class is for humanities majors who aren’t great at math, that don’t have a business background, but who need practical advice on how to succeed in their future career. We will also talk about the often overlooked fourth P, which is Purpose. With the right purpose, organizations and employees can find meaning in their work.

COMM 7370 - 001 Sem-Quantitative Rsrch
Foundations of Quantitative Communication Research: This course aims to teach students how to avoid common pitfalls and biases in scientific work, emphasizing the importance of theory, reproducibility, transparency, and contributing to larger lines of research. The course encourages critical evaluation of research decisions made by communication scientists, considering flaws in social scientific processes and “research degrees of freedom.” The goal of the course is to prepare students to become researchers that conduct high quality and rigorous research with integrity, care, and a desire to consistently improve upon their own practices.
