CLCS 3610 - Thinking About the World Comparatively

What does it mean to compare? To think about the world in a comparative way? This course helps you to study two or more large frameworks in terms of each other—cultures, genres, philosophies, theories, modes of thought, etc. Through meaningful juxtaposition of different frameworks, you will learn key skills of comparative studies and lay the groundwork for further work in the major. Topics may include “books turned into movies,” comparative cultural notions of the afterlife, pop culture around the world, philosophy East and West (or different philosophies within the East and West), etc. Required for the World Languages and Cultures major. Taught in English.
