MHA 6920 - 064 Int'l Study Trip
This class is for MHA students only. The course will provide students with a framework for understanding health systems and policies including financing which underpins the provision of clinical care. To enhance the learning experience, the course will offer a study tour to a partnering organization’s health system abroad. There students will gain an understanding of first-hand operational differences and similarities. Students will learn key issues and current approaches to improve care, especially in lower resource settings. Students will evaluate the context in which care is provided from the macro to the micro level, including the politics and policies that support them. Activities in the study tour will take place in Chile during Spring Break 2022, March 6-13. They include: • Visit at least one private and one public facility • Attend lectures by local healthcare leaders regarding critical management functions • Attend lectures explaining how the local healthcare system operates in Chile, including coverage, benefits definition, funding sources, and private and public insurance industries. • Visit facility in a low resource setting in Santiago or in its vicinity.
