HUM 690 - 001 Culture and the Humanities
In this course, we will study the concept of Culture, and learn about different cultures by looking at the arts, patterns of behavior, and belief and value systems of nations and their people. We will start our investigation of intellectual and artistic activities, and of cultural products, with readings that explain how members of a culture acquire their values, and how those values are manifested in the arts, literature, and society. Following an examination of Russian culture, guest lecturers will then focus on the cultures of France and China, and others. Learning about the different cultures will provide the foundation for comparing and contrasting various cultural values.
