Description
At some point in your life, it is likely you will face a period of incapacity--a time when you can make neither health care nor financial decisions for yourself. Sometimes incapacity is temporary; other times it lasts for years. And although this event is more likely as we age, it can happen at any time during one's life. The focus of this class is planning for incapacity, both for yourself and for your loved ones. We will examine legal issues: Advance Health Care Directives, Power of Attorney for Finances, joint tenancies/joint accounts, trusts, and nomination of a guardian; and financial issues: long-term care insurance (do benefits outweigh costs?), reverse mortgages, and 'Medicaid planning.' Explore the benefits and risks of each tool and receive guidance about putting a comprehensive plan in place. We will also address resources to turn to if planning efforts prove inadequate.
