Description
Whether looking for an obscure address for a party or heading cross-country on a road trip, you've most likely used maps to get from Point A to Point B. But maps are not limited to the mundane. Enjoy the richness of maps as we look at those that show animal ranges, ocean currents, historical transportation routes, wilderness hot springs, Native American ruins, ocean floor topography, and more. We will consider practical aspects of maps, such as route finding and land surveying; informative aspects for the armchair traveler or geography buff; and map artistry as we look at symbology, legends, and scale. We will also discuss how maps are created and what we can realistically expect in terms of accuracy. Rick has been a cartographer since 1979. He has created maps for the US Geological Survey, the National Park Service, the National Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management, among others.
