YEHS 103 - Introduction to AP Expository Writing (Grade 10-12)

If you are going to take an Advanced Placement course during your junior or senior year of high school, this is the prep course for you. Examine the type of questions and prompts used by the various exams, including the new SAT Writing Exam. Learn to write effective thesis statements, topic sentences, and supporting paragraphs. Analyze actual AP questions to understand how to best respond. Practice writing AP essays and SAT writing exam essays in timed situations. Spend time in writing workshops, evaluate each other's essays and provide peer-editing as a way of improving subsequent essay drafts. Take a look at sample essays and scoring rubrics, and participate in the type of holistic scoring that the AP test scorers use. There will be occasional guest lectures about how to best write for each type of AP exam. Get a leg up on the competition learn to write effective essays now!
