Description
Though short stories often have the complexity of a novel, they must accomplish everything a novel does in a fraction of the pages. Through readings and discussions of the work of major writers, we'll look at the key literary elements in the craft of fiction (point of view, plot, characterization, scene, etc.) as demonstrated through short stories. Equal attention will be given to the more sweeping philosophical questions and commentary put forward by the authors. Class is appropriate for both readers and writers.
