Description
They transported Monument Valley across the country, made John Wayne a household name, and entertained millions in the process. The Western film is a genre that is inextricably tied to American culture, both in terms of landscape and theme. In this course, we9ll trace the progression of the Western film, from B-movies for kids to scathing commentary of American domestic policy, by watching westerns from the 19209s through the 19909s. In the process, we'll examine the relationship between a film and the culture that makes it.
