Description
Join artists at This is the Place Heritage Park to learn about how the pioneers made their cookware, dishes, and household art. Students will make bowls, plates, and other household items while learning about the history and life of the pioneers. Also learn about the other early inhabitants in the valley and how native peoples produced their ceramic ware. Participants will learn fundamentals of ceramic creation beginning with a lump of clay. We'll form it by hand and fire it in a pit. Pit firing is the traditional technique for creating; artists dig a large pit in the ground, put their work in the pit, then fill it with manure, straw, or wood. Instructors fire it until the work is hard. This is an amazing journey where the process is part of the fun!
