Description
Start your spring season with a high-mountain adventure in the Colorado Rockies. We'll travel by vans to the White River National Forest near Basalt, Colorado. The first night will be spent relaxing and dining at Diamond J Ranch. Day two is a seven-mile hike to Harry Gates Hut, located in a clearing on a small wooded knoll at 9,700 feet. The hut is a three-story cabin with plenty of windows to look out on the ridge and to view the spectacular sunsets. Depending on the weather, day three will include a snowshoe or hike to Burnt Mountain, or you can choose to relax with a book or enjoy nature right outside the hut's door. Day four is another day for playing in this beautiful outdoor environment. Day five will have us heading back to the trailhead, and, if tradition holds true, we'll take a dip in the mineral springs in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Each person will carry his or her personal belongings from the trailhead to the hut. Fee includes van transportation between Park City and the trailhead, one night lodging and dinner at Diamond J. Ranch, three nights hut lodging and meals, maps, and leadership. Participants must supply their own sleeping bag, personal items, and snacks.
