Description
Based on Stephen King's spine-tingling novel, "The Shining" plunges you into a realm of isolation, psychological unraveling, and sinister forces. When Jack Torrance accepts a winter caretaker job at the remote Overlook Hotel, his hope for a fresh start turns into a desperate struggle to keep his family together amid its overpowering, dark influence. Debuted in 2016 by the Pulitzer Prize-winning duo of composer Paul Moravec and librettist Mark Campbell, this opera marries gripping storytelling with an evocative, modern score. Utah Opera Education Manager Kevin Nakatani and Dr. Carol Anderson will offer historical perspective and creator biographies, share highlights of this beautiful and beloved score, and discuss how modern artists can reenvision a classic opera through a modern lens, while honoring the music and storyline. Attendees will have the option to visit a working rehearsal after the class, and will be offered a discount code for ticket purchases.
