OSHER 171 - The Power of Myth

Joseph Campbell was one of the great intellectual voices of the twentieth century. He taught us about how the stories we tell come to define us. Mythology is not make believe; it is the glue that binds cultures together. This course will explore these stories, and Campbell's unique ability to bring them to life. Each week, we will examine a different culture's mythology, and using slide illustrated lectures, readings, and open discussion, gain a better understanding of how the stories we tell shape the world we live within.
