Description
The course explores various roles and goals of arts education and arts teaching, examining how arts educators—across the arts—approach teaching and learning from various perspectives. The course investigates the history of arts education, how the field is evolving, what constitutes effective arts teaching instruction, and what makes an effective arts educator. Summer residency classes investigate possible and appropriate roles and goals for the arts in education, as well as specific teaching methods for applying the arts in diverse educational settings. Class assignments allow students opportunities to explore arts education in various contexts (learning in and through the arts in settings such as schools, communities, and homes) via readings, lectures, and videos.
