PHS 7840 - 001 Independent Study
As an alternative to traditional coursework, students can establish an Independent Study. Independent Studies are learning experiences arranged between a student and supervising faculty member to receive credit. The purpose of an independent study is to contribute to a student’s didactic coursework. Papers produced during an independent study cannot be used towards a student’s overall dissertation requirement of 3 manuscript papers. Students are only allowed to register for an independent study up to 3 times for a total of 12 credit hours. Students who are interested in signing up for an Independent Study with a PHS faculty member should complete the "Independent Study Form" located at https://medicine.utah.edu/population-health-sciences/phd/current-resources and return it to phsphd@hsc.utah.edu by July 24, 2026 to receive a permission code to register.
