Description
This course will consist of an introduction to thermodynamic and geochemical concepts and their application to describe geologic processes and phenomena on and beneath the Earth’s surface. Students will learn fundamental chemical and mathematical approaches to quantitatively describe, interpret, and predict a wide range of geochemical processes in Earth systems, and they will learn the basic chemical and isotopic characteristics of materials comprising the Earth’s lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere. Two lectures, one lab weekly. This is a core Geoscience course. GEO1110 at other USHE institutions articulates to this course.
