This course fulfills the POLS 6630 core course requirement for MIAGE students. This course will meet via Zoom for the first seven weeks with the remainder of the semester being in-person. Course Description: This intermediate-level course in international relations explores the role and impact of international organizations (IOs) in global politics. It examines the challenges of cooperation in an anarchic international system and evaluates the role of intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) in addressing these challenges. While the primary focus is on IGOs, the course also touches on the contributions of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs). Through theoretical frameworks and case studies, students will critically assess the origins, design, functions, and effectiveness of IOs in promoting collective security, human rights, economic development, environmental protection, and global governance.
