Description
This course focuses on a) concepts, models, and theories that can be utilized to provide a framework for the organization and delivery of recreational therapy services; b) trends and current issues in the recreational therapy profession, the healthcare industry, and society; and c) how theoretical foundations can guide decision making and formulate innovation in new or trending areas of service delivery for the recreational therapy profession. Through a combination of readings, discussions, and written exercises students will reflect on and develop informed positions related to core values and beliefs that support the profession. Emphasis will be placed on using both evidence and theoretical frameworks to advocate for the relevance of recreational therapy services in both traditional and new or emerging areas of service.
