PRTL 120 - 001 NR-Outdoor Cooking&Camp
Everything tastes better when cooking outdoors! Stir up some delicious food while learning multiple cooking techniques and tools: two-burner stoves, whisperlight backpacking stoves, canister stoves, and/or dutch ovens. Students will camp at a front range campground and learn about campsite selection, camping equipment, and how to prepare for their own camping adventure. Class meets July 9 only. Field experience July 19-21. Overnight camping at a developed campground. Attendance at the first class meeting is mandatory. Drops not possible after the 2nd day following this meeting. Capture a lasting image of the amazing Utah landscape on your exploration of one of our many diverse scenic areas. Go way beyond selfies working with your SLR or DSLR camera to complete your course assignments. Locations frequently change each semester so you can explore with this class multiple times. This course is the first in a three-part series to teach students canyoneering skills. Skills that will be covered include the ACA Core Skill standards such as basic knots, intro to anchors and rigging, rappelling, belaying, self-rescue, trip planning, canyon rating system, canyon logistics and safety, partner captures, moving through the canyons, Leave No Trace ethics and much more. This course has two pre-field trip class meetings. Attendance at both class meetings (prior to field trip) is mandatory. Drops not possible after the 2nd day following the first class meeting. Class meets Tuesdays, May 28 and June 4. Overnight Camping. Field experience Fri.-Sun, June 7-9.
