Description
This course is intended for third-year University of Utah MD students interested in pursuing a career in radiology or orthopedic surgery/physical medicine and rehabilitation. This is a 2-week general elective which provides an overview of musculoskeletal imaging. The course is intended to introduce students to the various modalities employed in musculoskeletal imaging, including conventional radiography, ultrasound, CT (computed tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). Students will also be responsible for dictation of several radiographs, reviewing findings with the attending, and editing the reports on a daily basis. At the conclusion of the two-week course, students will gain familiarity with the appropriate ordering, protocoling, and interpreting of fundamental imaging studies involving the musculoskeletal system as well as gain an understanding of the overall workflow of the musculoskeletal section. Students will be encouraged to observe any procedures that may be scheduled during the rotation if interested.
