DENT 7156 - Periodontics II Lab (Non-Surgical)

This course will introduce the student to the principles and techniques of periodontal data collection, instrumentation and debridement via a series of lectures, demonstrations and skill-building exercises in the simulation lab and clinic. Students will learn how to accurately assess and record periodontal clinical findings, and perform supra and subgingival bacterial plaque biofilm and calculus removal essential to successful phase 1, nonsurgical periodontal therapy. This course builds on the foundational knowledge presented in Periodontics I (7129) and Periodontics II (7155.) Critical thinking and decision-making skills are applied in determining diagnosis, prognosis, treatment planning and non-surgical periodontal instrumentation as an integral component of comprehensive dental care. At the end of this course the student should be prepared to perform entry level periodontal patient therapy. .
