Course content will focus on avalanche awareness (rescue, terrain, weather, snowpack, and decision-making/human factors), side-country ethics, choosing appropriate tours, navigation, basic 1st aid, and field repairs. Leave No Trace skills appropriate for the winter and information regarding natural resource management will also be covered in this course. These skills will be acquired through multiple days on the ski slopes, demonstrations, and discussion. Additionally, issues related to management of U.S. Forest Service administered lands, such as those used in this ski class, as they relate to recreation and other uses. This course is available for Novice through Advanced skiers, and will be grouped based on each individual's skiing ability. Class meets on-campus on Jan. 20th only.
