LAW 7925 - Externship Credit

An externship is an opportunity for students to earn academic credit while working under the supervision and guidance of a practicing attorney or judge. Through externships, students are exposed to different areas of practice and the courts, learn substantive law, develop lawyering skills, and build their understanding of lawyers’ roles and professional responsibility. First-time externs will enroll in two credits of the companion course, Learning from Practice (except for those enrolled in a Judicial Clinic placement). Students taking a subsequent externship will enroll in 1 credit of Advanced Learning from Practice. The credit for this course is equivalent to “clinical” credit hours. Students enrolled in this course must work at least 50 hours per credit hour at the placement site. The course is pass/fail and capped at 14 total credits before graduation.
