OSHER 150 - Exploring the Instruments of Classical Music

In this music appreciation course, we will explore the solo repertoire and sounds of standard Western musical instruments. Strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments have different sounds and capabilities, all of which our ears are able to detect and distinguish. Composers and virtuosos throughout history have influenced how instruments developed and how they sound to us today. We will also take a peek at some important ancestors to the instruments we know and love.
