Italian Wine Tasting with Matteo - Wines of Sicily: Matteo Sogne will welcome us at VENETO for tastings of his favorite Italian wines. This event is the first in a series of 6 monthly events, from May through October. $10 Instructor Fee per event due at the time of registration; plus Special Fees to be paid upon arrival on the evening of. Attend all 6 events and receive a "surprise" from Matteo at the last event. There will be 5-7 wines per event; pours will be light, with the option to "spit" the wine after tasting. Light appetizers will be served. Sicily is a great island which has amazing wines, you just need to know where to look. When people usually refer to a Sicilian wine, they want a bold, strong, dark Nero d'Avola with a very high alcohol content that numbs your mouth after the 3rd sip. Matteo is not a huge fan of that kind of wine; he likes more elegant, stylish wines that make you want to drink another glass, if not another bottle! Sicily has huge varieties of wines, especially lately with the rise of Etna Rosso and Etna Bianco, red and white blends based on Indigenous grapes grown on mount Etna, an amazing combination of freshness given by the elevation, complexity and minerality from the lavic soil and smoothness given by the warm weather and full sun exposure. We will start this tasting with a traditional unoaked, fresh chardonnay, then some light red Sicilian blends, elegant Crus of Nero d'Avola, and finish with some passiti from Pantelleria and the Lipari Islands. $30 Special Fee to be paid directly to Matteo on May 24 (cash, check, Venmo, or Zelle only). If this class is full, please add you name to the waitlist; you may be able to join the class once enough people waitlist.

Italian Wine Tasting with Matteo - Sangiovese and Montalcino: Matteo Sogne will welcome us at Carmine's Italian Restaurant for tastings of his favorite Italian wines. This event is the second in a series of 6 monthly events, from May through October. $10 Instructor Fee per event due at the time of registration; plus Special Fees to be paid upon arrival on the evening of. There will be 5-7 wines per event; pours will be light, with the option to "spit" the wine after tasting. Light appetizers will be served. Sangiovese, the native grape of Tuscany, the spine in the Chianti blend, is the main grape of Italy. Sangiovese is a grape that can change deeply based on where it grows, the exposition and the elevation. Monte Amiata, in Montalcino is a great expression of this. Same grape, same treatment, same process and totally different wines. In this class we will taste several different expressions of Sangiovese before landing in Montalcino. We will start from a white Sangiovese, go to Maremma Toscana and Bolgheri (where the famous Super Tuscans like Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Masseto, Solaia etc are made), Chianti, have a quick trip to Romagna and then end up in Montalcino passing through Montepulciano. In this event, Matteo wants to focus on the terroir aspect of the same grape, treated in the same way to end up in extremely different wines. $30 Special Fee to be paid directly to Matteo on June 21 (cash, check, Venmo, or Zelle only). If this class is full, please add your name to the waitlist; you may be able to join the class once enough people waitlist.

Italian Wine Tasting with Matteo - Sparkling: Matteo Sogne will welcome us at Carmine's Italian Restaurant for tastings of his favorite Italian wines. This event is the third in a series of 6 monthly events, from May through October. $10 Instructor Fee per event due at the time of registration; plus Special Fees to be paid upon arrival on the evening of. There will be 5-7 wines per event; pours will be light, with the option to "spit" the wine after tasting. Light appetizers will be served. In this event Matteo wants to focus on a style of wine that is becoming more and more common - bubbles. Who doesn't love a cold glass of sparkling wine on their porch during a hot summer evening? But what is in your glass? What is behind the bubbles? Sparkling wines can range from only a few $ to several thousands, but what is the difference that justifies this price range? Why do some bubbles feel softer and more velvety than others? During this class we will start a journey into the very deep (and sometimes uselessly complicated) world of sparkling wines, starting from the traditional Prosecco and Lambrusco, passing through Franciacorta and ending up in the region that everyone knows - Champagne! $30 Special Fees will be paid directly to Matteo on July 19 (cash, check, Venmo, or Zelle only). If this class is full, please add your name to the waitlist; you may be able to join the class once enough people waitlist.
