Description
This graduate-level seminar, an elective within the Sociology Department's Global and Comparative Sociology (GCS) area of specialization, provides a foundation in the sociology of gender. It incorporates research on global processes of reproduction, sexuality, development, migration , media, violence, and human rights in relation to gender identities. The course draws on debates in sociology and related disciplines regarding the intersection of gender, inequality, and globalization. It explores, among other things, the (re-)production of gender in everyday life; the persistence and transformation of gender inequality; and the intersections of gender with race/ethnicity, class, and sexuality. Students will progress in their understanding of gender scholarship, feminist theory, and queer politics across regions and cultures.
