OSHER 630 - Current Issues in American Public Affairs and Politics

Examine current political and governmental issues breaking that day and week--locally, nationally, internationally! This class is highly interactive. Controversial questions are scrutinized. Answers in group discussion are encouraged. Readings from the New York Times and NPR, as well as local newspapers and Internet sources, will be provided. News articles and videos seed the discussion, but often grow into entirely different topics based on student interest and participation. Students are encouraged to ask hard questions, and to participate actively and respectfully in class discussion.
