Description
What do you know about the history of voter suppression in the United States? How has the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) been a target for political activists since its inception? Let's discuss the key players in the world of voter suppression (including the current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court), tracing the way they hindered the American voter, culminating in the 2013 Supreme Court decision to invalidate many of the voter protections enshrined in the VRA. Students will walk away with a deeper understanding of both the importance of voting and the precarity of that right in today's political environment.
