OSHER 645 - So What's New?! A Survey Of New Movements In Western Art (1840-1900)

This is ART?! Modern, Modernism, and Post-Modern: we will examine the new movements in European art from the 1840's to 1900 Realism (Courbet, Millet, Daumier, Eakins, Homer). Then, dive into Impressionism (Monet, Caillebotte, Pissarro, Renoir, Manet, Degas, Cassatt, Morisot), Post-Impressionism (Seurat, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne), and the Arts and Crafts Movement. From there, we examine the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood (Everything Old is New Again), Fin de siècle, Symbolism, Expressionism, Art Nouveau, Vienna Secession (Klimt), and the sculpture of Rodin.
