Description
Sophocles' Oedipus the King, Antigone, and Oedipus at Colonus are among the best known -- and most widely ready and performed -- of the roughly 30 Greek tragedies that have come down to us from 5th Century BC Athens. Although they are often called the "Theban Cycle," the three plays were in fact each many years apart from each other across Sophocle' lengthy dramatic career, indicating the fascination the story of the disastrous fall of the royal house of Thebes held for the playwright.
