Description
This course is an introductory survey of the American criminal justice system with a focus on its social and institutional context and structure and functioning. The course will provide an overview of the primary agencies of the criminal justice system (police, courts, and corrections) both from an historic and contemporary perspective. Both offenders and victims as they relate to criminal justice will be discussed. We will address issues relating to race, ethnicity, class, and gender which have been historically neglected.
