OSHER 420 - History of Funeral Service

A brief introduction to the modern day funera service. The course will cover, historical developments, present day funeral practices and the values of funeral service. Personal qualifications, ethics, and application to current practices will also be discussed. Students will also receive instruction on current religious rites, ceremonies and memorial practices of religious faiths the funeral director will serve, including, Protestant, Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Military and Veteran Organizations, Buddhist, Jewish and Fraternal Funeral Rites. Instruction will also include guest speakers. Modern day funeral service operation, law and regulations will be discussed as well.
