Description
This course is an introduction to public health in two settings: Ghana and France. Through a fieldwork experience, students will explore the challenges and solutions that Ghana is currently addressing with regard to infrastructure (such as clean water and appropriate sanitation), providing health services in cities and rural areas, and education. Students will be trained and participate in collecting data for an ongoing research project in rural Ghana. In France, students will identify solutions that were implemented hundreds of years ago to address some of these same problems and discuss how we continue to address similar problems today. In addition, students will take trips to important cultural sites and discuss how culture shapes public health solutions.
