Description
Each class in this multi-term series focuses on a Utah Opera production during the company's season. You will learn the historical background of the operas, and will have the opportunity to listen carefully and get acquainted with the work's most beloved musical moments. The class has been planned so that participants may sit in on some of the rehearsal process in the opera production studios. It's a great way to prepare to have a fantastic experience attending a performance of the opera in the Capitol Theatre, and to appreciate all of the work that goes on behind the scenes. Enjoy a sentimental double-bill performance featuring some of the most beloved music in all of opera. The performance begins with Pagliacci¸ Leoncavallo's emotionally intense masterpiece of passion, infidelity, and murder. The opera includes the famous aria "Vesti la giubba," sung by the clown Canio -- a signature role of Utah Opera's founder Glade Peterson. Next, heartbreak turns into laughter as we explore the lighter side of Puccini with Gianni Schicchi. See what unfolds when a man of great wealth dies, leaving behind a secret will, a gang of scheming heirs, and a hilarious mess. Watch, listen, and laugh at the comedy in the chaos.
