OSHER 59 - Does Practicing the Golden Rule Still Matter?

Using the life experiences of those in class, we will explore major current events. We will employ the lens of the Golden Rule: "Treat others as you want to be treated." With a full and civil discussion, we will examine three themes: Poverty and Homelessness; Immigration; and Health Care. This will not be a right vs. left political discussion, but rather an exploration of what our moral obligations are to each other. How might we treat others with kindness and compassion even when we differ in so many ways? Students will spend time in small group discussions and sharing with the entire class.
