Deserts cover 30% or more of the global land surface and face population growth, droughts, and the impacts of hydroclimatic change. This course presents conceptual foundations and case studies related to ongoing research about the nature, origin, and geomorphic evolution of arid landforms, as well as selected environmental issues. Class readings, lectures, exercises, and field trip focus on the physical, biological, geomorphic, temporal, and human components of drylands.
