ARCH 4850 - The Human Dimension: Gender and Race Theories in Architecture

Built environments are inherently social and cultural constructions. This course explores the complex relationship between people and buildings. It is the aim of this course to mobilize contemporary critical theory in order to examine the structure of gender, race, and other human dimensions as a means of exploring the representation, production and performance of architecture and urban space. This course is designed as a broad inter-disciplinary study of the environmental, political, economic, sociocultural, and aesthetic conditions affecting urban life and design.
