Description
Forensic science is the application of a broad spectrum of disciplines to investigate and assist the trier of fact in criminal or civil law. We'll start with an overview of the field and learn about the capabilities of the Utah Bureau of Forensic Services (a.k.a the State Crime Lab); learn about the history of fingerprints and about fingerprint processing techniques; explore history and topics in Questioned Document Examination; and study the tools and techniques in biological evidence (e.g. DNA). Students will also walk through a mock crime scene and discuss any probative evidence and how to collect it. The class will be a balance of lecture and hands-on experience, culminating with a visit to the State Crime Lab.
