HONOR 3650 - Muslim Women's Voices: Using Fiction & Non-Fiction for a Comparative Dialogue

Over the course of this semester, we will read autobiographies/memoirs of women, works of fiction, and one book of poetry from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Hearing these women's voices will provide us with a view of current events in this region of the world. By considering how these writers portray women's lives and the events in their countries, we will better understand the personal circumstances of these writers. We will engage in thorough discussions of these readings, and augment the texts with current films on specific issues relating to women in MENA in terms of the political and social structures that directly impact their lives and those of their families.
