OSHER 22 - Creative Quietude: Architecture, Landscape, and Urban Design

Architecture is an art dependent on reason, clarity, validity, and, most of all, inspiration. Creative Quietude is a term used in Taoism to suggest the flow of a boundless tide producing delight in life. That notion will guide our exploration of local and international architecture, including landscape architecture and urban design. Looking at both historical and contemporary examples, this course will clarify the ideas and concepts involved in the difficult problems architects face, introducing students to some of the best solutions.
