Description
This course is a unique opportunity for highly-motivated undergraduate and graduate students to learn about outreach programs and actively participate in a primary and secondary Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education program that targets children with limited opportunities. Weekly lectures will focus on how to identify needs of a community and creation of an outreach program to fulfill that need. A special emphasis will be placed on developing skills to communicate with the public. In addition to weekly lectures, students will spend a minimum of 40 hours/semester assisting with classroom, afterschool, and outreach STEM-related activities. There is a mandatory course orientation on the Thursday before classes begin from 1:00pm-5:00pm. Failure to attend orientation may result in being dropped from the course. Please check Canvas and Umail frequently for further updates.
