LLCFT 283 - Traditional Eastern European Egg Dyeing for Holiday Decor

Dyed eggs have been found in grave sites over 3,000 years old in Germania, long before borders for modern countries were created or the Easter Bunny became a beloved holiday icon. Traditionally, they have been used to celebrate seasonal changes, festivals, births, and other rites of passage. Learn about the history, legends, designs and technique of making these beautiful pieces of folk art from Ingrid Hersman, a master of German, Ukrainian and other Eastern European egg decorating styles. You will learn to design and decorate eggs with wax and special dyes as well as pick up some tricks for using them in your own decorative arrangements throughout the year. Participants should bring 4 white, smooth-shelled chicken eggs. Eggs must be raw and at room temperature.
