LLART 251 - Photojournalism for the Citizen Journalist

As newspapers and magazines continue to adjust to the current digital media climate, both traditional print and web-based news organizations like local TV & radio stations openly solicit content from what is commonly called "citizen journalists." This class will explore the basics of news gathering photography & video utilizing anything from an iPhone to a digital SLR professional grade camera. Rudimentary photo editing via iPhone app or desktop based program like iPhoto or Photoshop will be covered, as well as an introduction to Twitter and Instagram as venues for publishing current event/news photography. During the third week of class a field trip will be taken to a scheduled news event where students can practice the techniques they have learned in the classroom. We will return the 4th week to share.
