Description
The Great Salt Lake is a unique, understudied, and underestimated national landmark. As one of the most extreme ecosystems of the world, where life is tested at its limits, this lake provides new territory for exploration. Once an ancient inland sea, Great Salt Lake has a rich geological and human history. Today it is a critical site for migratory birds, an important resource for industry and recreation and a valuable laboratory for learning about the biology and chemistry of hypersaline environments. Join us for an interdisciplinary tour of our salty neighbor with Westminster College's Great Salt Lake Institute and friends. A special addition to the six week class is an optional field trip to GSL on October 15 from 9am - 1pm ($70 special fee for transportation and lunch).
