Description
Gain a deeper understanding of conflicts on the Northern Great Plains--- immigrants from the Eastern half of the United States and the US Army on one side, the Lakota (Sioux) Indians and their allies the Arapaho and Cheyenne on the other. Beginning with the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1851 and ending with the Battle of Wounded Knee in 1890, the Indian Wars lasted four decades and shaped the future of our nation. Students will be exposed to a variety of supplemental readings to bring this period of history to life.
