OSHER 783 - India: A Glimpse Into Its Religion & Literature

This overview of ancient and modern India will include an introduction to Hinduism and its most sacred spiritual text--the Bhagavad Gita. -. Basics tenets of Hinduism, Vedanta, and the message of Gita will be elaborated and some of its most important verses discussed. In addition, Osher members will explore the rich literary contributions of Indian women writers writing in English and in other regional languages in India, as well as some diaspora writers. Our focus will be on the women's perspectives and social positions depicted in the works of these authors. Our study of literature will provide insights into the lives and cultural negotiations of these women.
